Acts of expression - visual, written, oral - are radical because they come from an individual daring to use her/his voice in a world that seems determined to stifle, to silence. All attempts at expression are significant and should be cherished...whether they inspire, reflect the social and cultural climate, act as a conduit for respite or escape, or challenge the audience. In my life, expression means freedom, independence.
This place is for my art. Here is where I stop talking and start listening. When I listen I can see more clearly. First came photography, then sculpture. They were followed by drawing and painting.
I am an adult survivor of childhood physical and sexual abuse. My brain locked away all memories of such incidents until I was ready to learn about my past. I was 31 when the memories began surfacing. Art making has been pivotal as a therapeutic exercise, something to get me through some of the roughest emotions.
These days, when words cannot express sufficiently, I paint. Occasionally, I post new work. Each image captures a moment in time. This is my forum to release those moments to the world.
